Someone knows a secret about the murder of a celebrity football player’s beautiful ex-wife, whose brutal stabbing led to a controversial trial that riveted the nation.
The person with the secret is the couple’s daughter, Holly. She was just seven years old and her brother was four when their father, Ronnie Duncan, was acquitted of their mother’s murder.
This is Holly’s story as she grows up to doubt her father's innocence and vows to bring him to justice. It is also the story of her mother, Francine, and her love affair and marriage to a football hero. Their glamorous lifestyle has a dark underside that ultimately leads to Francine’s violent death. This riveting suspense novel, Retribution, has classic dramatic elements — celebrity, love, violence, revenge — that culminate in a surprising conclusion.

As someone who worked in a hospital emergency room, I can tell you domestic violence is more prevalent than you can possibly imagine. Broken jaws. Teeth knocked out or shattered. Concussions. Stab wounds. Torn scalps. Broken arms and legs. Strangulations. People say, " Why doesn't she just leave him?" The answer is that leaving the batterer often means sure death for the victim and/or her children. Sometimes there is nowhere to run for safety or no one to turn to. This book may be a work of fiction, but the abuse scenario plays out hundreds-if not thousands-of times each day behind closed doors. If you are a victim of your spouse's or partner's abuse, seek help. No one has the right to hurt you. Simply put, batterers are cowards and these are the cowardly choices they make.Product details

Retribution eBook Margo McCarthy Reviews
This was a good book, full of interesting characters, engaging plot, suspense as the story unfolds and a surprising ending. What I really appreciated was the lack of obsession with sex, materialism and superlatives. Fame turned to notoriety for an OJ type character and justice was served.
This is very similar to the OJ Simpson story but I am not
Sure where Gerald Brown fits in. Thank God for Justice
What an easy book to read about how greed and lust can get the best of you and the life of those around you.
This book tells a story of the search by an adult Holly Dunbar for her mother's murderer. A murder she believes that she witnessed as a seven year old child. She suspects her father, a then famous Pro Football player.
I started to read this book and it just grabbed me. At the risk of reciting typical platitudes, McCarthy wrote a suspenseful and intriguing story. Her narrative was smooth, jumping at times between her mother's experience and state of mind prior to her demise and her current investigation to identify the perpetrator. The plot was well structured that made for a swift and easy read. Her characters became so real that I could almost anticipate their behavior. McCarthy devised a denouement both unexpected and very clever.
This would be an excellent book to read on a sunny beach or on a rainy day in a summer rental or for that matter, anywhere at all.
Move over Michael Connelly, Margo McCarthy has arrived on the scene.
When O.J. Simpson was acquitted in 1992 of murdering his wife, Nicole, many believed he got away with murder. Those who do will find a satisfying end to that scenario in this novel. "Retribution" isn't about O.J., but a very similar character named Ronnie Duncan, also a former professional football Hall-of-famer who is accused of murdering his wife. The novel first switches between the events leading up to the murder with the tale of Duncan's older daughter, Holly, who has grown up and come to the conclusion that her father may actually have killed her mother. It then moves solely to Holly's story and how that realization may have devastating and potentially fatal consequences. When I first started reading the novel I was worried I would be spending most of my time comparing the novel's plot with the real-life story. But McCarthy paints vivid characters that I came to care about on their own, particularly Holly, on whom most of the novel focuses, and whose quest for justice for her mother is told so compellingly. Because Holly is such a well-drawn character, because of its fast pace, because of the building suspense and exciting plot twists, I found myself turning the pages as quickly as I could to see what was going to happen next. It's a fast, fun, suspenseful read, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, even if they had never heard of O.J. Simpson.
Superb writing and an engrossing story -- what more can you ask of a book? I was hooked from the moment I started reading and couldn't stop until I found out how Margo McCarthy would wrap this one up. Not much got done around my house until I finished reading Retribution. The characters were all well-drawn and their interaction was riveting. The change in point of view was done well and kept me waiting for the next chapter. When I read a book where I have to hunt for "stopping places" so I can quit reading to -- oh, cook dinner or do the laundry -- and I can't find them, I know I have a great book in my hands. Retribution was that book!
Although this story was pretty predictable, I really liked it. The writing is great and keeps one reading on well past their bedtime! Does it bring back memories of the O. J. Simpson case and trial? Yes, it does but there were enough twists and turns to keep it fresh. The punctuation was good which isn't the case in most e-books, and there were a few 'missing' words in places but not enough to slow down the reader. All in all, a very good 'read' and you can't go wrong with the price! I'm looking forward to more books from this author.
